  • Why We Use Stego Vapor Barrier

    • At Burns Construction Group, many of the most important decisions we make are the ones you’ll never see. Behind the walls, beneath the slab, and built into the structure of the home are the components that determine how well your home performs over time.

    • One of those critical components is the vapor barrier we install beneath every slab. We choose Stego because it is one of the most reliable ways to protect your home from moisture at its source.

  • Controlling Moisture From the Ground Up

    • Concrete may feel solid, but it is naturally porous. Without proper protection, moisture from the ground can move through the slab and into your home. Over time, that can lead to flooring failures, material degradation, and poor indoor air quality.

    • Stego creates a continuous, high-performance barrier beneath the slab that significantly reduces moisture transmission. It’s a proactive step that protects everything built on top of it.

  • Exceeding Code, On Purpose

    • In most cases, building code only requires a 6 mil vapor barrier beneath the slab. That meets the minimum standard, but it leaves little margin for error during installation or over the life of the home.

    • We use a 15 mil Stego barrier.

    • That added thickness provides significantly greater puncture resistance and durability on an active job site, where foot traffic, rebar, and trades can easily compromise thinner materials. More importantly, it creates a more robust, long-term defense against moisture intrusion.

    • This is a clear example of where we intentionally go beyond code to deliver a better-performing home.

  • Protecting Finishes You’ll Actually See

    • The materials our clients care about most—hardwood floors, tile, cabinetry, and millwork—are all sensitive to moisture.

    • By investing in a premium vapor barrier below the slab, we are protecting those visible finishes long before they are installed. It helps prevent cupping in wood floors, adhesive breakdown in tile systems, and long-term issues that are costly and disruptive to repair.

  • Built for Long-Term Performance

    • Not all vapor barriers are created equal. Thinner, lower-quality products can tear during installation or break down over time, especially on active job sites.

    • Stego is engineered for durability, with high puncture resistance and consistent performance. That means it holds up during construction and continues performing long after the home is complete.

  • A Hidden Layer of Confidence

    • This is the kind of detail that defines how we build. You won’t see it in the finished home, but you will feel the difference over time.

    • At Burns Construction Group, we believe a home should perform as well as it looks. Using products like Stego is part of our commitment to building homes that are not only beautiful, resilient, and built to last.
