Schluter Systems
Why We Use Schluter Systems
Tile and stone are some of the most durable and beautiful finishes in a home, but they are only as good as the system beneath them. What you don’t see under the surface is what determines whether those materials last or fail over time.
That’s why we build our tile assemblies using Schluter Systems. Their integrated products are designed to manage movement, control moisture, and protect the finished surface for the long term.
Managing Movement Before It Becomes a Problem
All structures move. Framing expands and contracts, concrete slabs shift, and seasonal changes create subtle but constant movement throughout a home.
Tile and stone don’t tolerate that movement well on their own. Without the right system, that stress transfers directly to the surface, leading to cracked tiles or failing grout.
Schluter’s uncoupling membranes, like Ditra, are designed specifically to absorb and redistribute that movement. Instead of allowing stress to reach the finished surface, it’s managed below, where it belongs.
A Complete System, Not Just One Product
One of the reasons we use Schluter is that it’s not a single solution, it’s a fully integrated system.
From uncoupling membranes to waterproofing (Kerdi), edge profiles, and shower assemblies, each component is designed to work together. That consistency eliminates weak points and ensures the entire installation performs as one cohesive system.
It’s a more thoughtful, engineered approach compared to mixing and matching products from different manufacturers.
Protecting Against Moisture
Moisture is one of the biggest threats to tile assemblies, especially in bathrooms, kitchens, and exterior applications.
Schluter’s waterproofing systems create a continuous barrier behind the tile, preventing water from reaching the substrate. This reduces the risk of mold, deterioration, and long-term damage that can otherwise go unnoticed until it becomes a major issue.
Long-Term Durability You Can Trust
When tile fails, it’s rarely the tile itself, it’s the installation beneath it.
By using Schluter systems, we’re significantly reducing the likelihood of cracks, loose tiles, and grout failure. It creates a more stable, longer-lasting installation that holds up to daily use and natural building movement.
Building Beyond the Surface
This is another example of how we approach construction. We don’t just focus on the visible finish, we focus on the system that supports it.
At Burns Construction Group, we believe a home should age well. Using Schluter allows us to deliver tile and stone installations that not only look refined on day one, but continue to perform for years to come.
