Rockwool
Why We Use Rockwool Insulation
At Burns Construction Group, we believe what goes inside the walls matters just as much as what you see on the surface. Insulation plays a major role in how a home feels, performs, and lasts over time.
That’s why we choose Rockwool insulation. It allows us to deliver a quieter, more energy-efficient, and more resilient home while also aligning with our commitment to sustainability.
Comfort You Can Feel Every Day
Rockwool is made from stone, which gives it a density that traditional fiberglass insulation simply doesn’t have. That density translates directly into performance.
Your home stays more consistent in temperature, with fewer drafts and hot spots. It also dramatically reduces sound transfer between rooms and from the exterior, creating a quieter, more comfortable living environment.
Exceeding Minimum Standards
In our region, the minimum code requirement for wall insulation is typically around R-13 (2x4 walls) to R-19 (2x6 walls). That meets the baseline, but it doesn’t maximize performance.
We build with 2x6 wall assemblies and install Rockwool insulation rated at approximately R-23.
That increase may seem incremental on paper, but in practice it delivers a noticeable improvement in thermal performance. More importantly, Rockwool’s density and real-world performance often outperform lighter insulation products, even when nominal R-values appear similar.
This is another example of where we intentionally build beyond minimum code to create a more comfortable and efficient home.
Built-In Fire Resistance
Because it’s made from stone, Rockwool is naturally non-combustible and can withstand extremely high temperatures.
This adds an extra layer of protection within the walls of your home, slowing the spread of fire and providing valuable time in the event of an emergency. It’s a level of resilience that we believe should be standard in a high-performance home.
Sustainable by Design
Sustainability isn’t just about energy efficiency, it’s also about the materials we choose and how they’re made.
Rockwool is produced using abundant natural stone and a significant amount of recycled material. It is also highly durable and does not degrade over time, meaning it won’t need to be replaced or end up in a landfill decades down the line.
Additionally, its thermal performance helps reduce energy consumption over the life of the home, lowering both environmental impact and operating costs.
Performance That Lasts
Unlike some insulation products that can sag, compress, or lose effectiveness over time, Rockwool maintains its shape and performance for the long term.
It is also water-resistant and vapor permeable, meaning it does not trap moisture within the wall assembly. This helps reduce the risk of mold and contributes to a healthier indoor environment.
A Higher Standard Behind the Walls
This is one of those decisions that homeowners may never see, but they will experience every day.
At Burns Construction Group, we don’t believe in minimum standards. We build homes that are designed to perform at a higher level, from the structure to the finishes.
Using Rockwool is part of that commitment. It’s quieter, safer, more durable, and more sustainable, exactly what we want behind every wall we build.
